GALESBURG, Ill., Apr 24, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Teachers and grief counselors in Galesburg, Ill., Monday explained the untimely death of preschool teacher Sheila Redington to her students.
Redington, 44, a veteran teacher at Costa Catholic School in central Illinois died of complications of bacterial meningitis Sunday, six days after complaining of flu-like symptoms.
She was placed in a medically induced coma at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria where her temperature reached 108.5 degrees, the Peoria Journal-Star reported.
"She was always bubbly and always seeing the bright side of things," said Susan Bay, developmental director of the Costa Catholic School. The pre-school reopened Friday after rooms were cleaned with an anti-bacterial chemical.
Redington was married with four children ages 6 to 22. She also was head cheerleading coach at Galesburg High School, where her husband, Tim, is boy's soccer coach.
Family members and two other teachers were receiving antibiotics as a precaution, Knox County health department officials said.
