After a blowout victory against Miami last week, No. 24 Boise State looks to continue that momentum to take on BYU, a team that just suffered a bizarre but devastating loss to Utah last weekend to be bumped off the AP weekly poll.
The Broncos posted 39 points against Miami last week to bounce back from their 17-13 loss against Michigan State. The Cougars won their first two games of the season only to be defeated in an in-state rivalry game against Utah which saw the crowd storm the field three times in Salt Lake City.

Head coach Chris Petersen talked about BYU in his teleconference earlier this week. Here is what he had to say:
On the crowd noise and how it could affect BYU:
“I know how important the crowd is. I’m being 100 percent serious. Crowd noise is, like I’ve said forever, very difficult to deal with. If we can have our people as loud as they’ve ever been, I promise you it will help us.”
On BYU players' defense and physicality:
“Bronco’s got them playing as hard as they ever played and I think that’s the one thing that jumps out when you watch BYU. It’s his baby. He’s a defensive guy. A lot of people believe it starts and ends with defense. I think they got a really good offense as well. Don’t get me wrong, but they do a great job on their stats early in the season and backing that up. I think they’re ninth in total defense. They got a lot of sacks. They play very physical and play very hard. Looks like those guys have played together for a while. They get a lot of guys (to the ball), and that’s how you play physical defense. There will be a lot of helmets hitting the guy.
"It’s going to be a big challenge for the offensive line. They’re the next level defense, for sure. You can see it on tape. They’ve played three games now. I think Utah is a pretty good and a pretty physical team as well, and I think they’re giving up less than 50 yards a game running the ball. So we’ll have our work cut out for us without question.”
On BYU and Boise State similarities:
“They’re probably a little bit like us. They try to be balanced and run the ball. They huddle up then they go no-huddles.”
On BYU quarterback Riley Nelson:
“I think the quarterback is a tough, hard-nose player. He kind of seems like a defensive player playing offense. He’s much more of a running-type quarterback. It’s part of his game. Running around and creating things. He’s really good off the scramble. If he’s going to scramble, he’s going to put his pads down, too. He’s not scrambling to go out of bounds or go down. That’s part of who he is and part of his game.”
Petersen doesn’t really like the idea of playing BYU for the next 12 years straight though.
“12 years? Not really. That’s a lot of years strung together. That’s like they’re in your league and they’re not in your league. I think a lot of the fans will like it. I don’t worry about rivalries. I know that they can be healthy and good and all that, but that’s just not where we are right now. We just got a lot of respect for BYU. They’re a heck of a program. They always have some of the best players in the country. (At BYU) there will always be an elite player in the country, in my opinion.”
