A recent KSL editorial said the proposed "Washington County Growth and Conservation Act offers a sensible blueprint for advancing" issues related to growth and conservation in the St. George area.

In response, Washington County Commissioner Alan Gardner said the editorial implied the proposed legislation "is a good place to start."

"Actually, Washington County's proposed federal legislation and complimentary growth visioning process are the result of two years of comprehensive, collaborative work. It represents the best collaborative effort ever to come out of the State of Utah" a state held hostage for decades by extreme advocacy groups who nationalize and generalize every public land problem, and who refuse to collaborate on any level. And, their "all we want or we will work to kill" strategy is supported by media like KSL who accept their half true statements at face value and glorify their controversial tactics in order to attract viewers.

It is very disappointing that the media continues to report the hyperbole and controversy and refuses to seek the in depth story about real people who are working for real solutions to complicated public land problems."

As always, a more complete text of Commissioner Gardner's response, including his description of what the proposed legislation would accomplish can be found on our website at www.ksl.com.
