SALT LAKE CITY - The coaching carousel keeps spinning with the Jazz losing and gaining assistants for Tyrone Corbin in the course of a day.

Yesterday Scott Layden made it official that he was leaving the Jazz to take the front office position that was made vacant by new Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey. Today Layden's absence has been filled internally by Michael Sanders, who will have his position filled by Brad Jones.

Sanders is now an assistant coach, Layden's old position, and Jones is an assistant coach/player development.

Sanders was an assistant coach/player development last season in his first year with the Jazz after years as a player and a coach in the NBA and various other leagues, starting with his rookie season in 1982 with the Spurs.

"Moving Mike from player development to the bench is a promotion that he has earned," Corbin said. "His strong work ethic and skill set, coupled with his experience as a former player and coach in the NBA and D-League, has proven to be valuable to our franchise and I look forward to working with him closer in his enhanced role."

The position he filled last year will be filled by Jones who is the former coach of the Utah Flash. He was the original coach of the D-League franchise from '07-'10. Keeping with the Spurs and Jazz take a penny leave a penny theme, he was the coach of the Austin Toros last season, the Spurs-owned D-League affiliate. He won a D-League championship last season with the Toros.

"Brad is a well-respected and recognized young coaching talent with a proven track-record of player development," Corbin said. "We are very happy to be bringing him back to the Jazz family."

He spent six years with the Jazz as a regional scout starting in 2001. His head coaching experience goes back to 1995 when he was the coach of Lambuth University in Tennessee.
