(NBC News) -- There are plenty of ways to reduce the signs of aging on the face. Now it's possible to make the hands look younger too.

Phyllis Byrne, Patient: "As I got older, I got my grandmother's hands and I said I don't think I want to have that at this age."

As a little girl, Phyllis Byrne remembers admiring the lines on her grandmother's hands. But it was a much different story when wrinkles showed up on her own hands.

Phyllis Byrne, Patient: "I think my hands looked older than I felt, and I think they looked older than the rest of me."

Now, your hands can look as youthful as your face... thanks to a combination of cosmetic procedures

"Here we go, a gentle pinch"

First... Restalyne -- a popular facial filler made from natural sugars -- is injected into the hands to plump them up.

Dr. Tina West, Dermatologist: "It fills in lines, wrinkles and helps add volume, because we lose volume in our skin over time, with age."

Dr. Tina West uses a new device to resurface the skin on the hands. The portrait system claims to use "plasma energy" to heat and remodel the skin and is less invasive than a laser procedure.

Dr. Tina West, Dermatologist: "In the past laser resurfacing was reserved just for facial skin, and it wasn't suitable for the hands, now we have this plasma technology that works on the surface of the skin to even out the pigment, but also targets the collagen underneath."

That should make the hands look smoother over time.

"My new hand"

The results of the Restalyne are almost immediate and can improve over time... But it can take a week or so for the effects of the resurfacing to become visible.

Dr. Tina West, Dermatologist: "This combination of procedures will make her hands look 10-15 years younger."

Doctor West says she's seen a lot of interest in hand rejuvenation. And so far.. Patients who have had it done are pleased with the results.

Dr. Tina West, Dermatologist: "The hands can really give away your age, if your face is looking really young, and you're taking great care of the body, and you're in great shape, they're the one area that's often times is neglected."

Phyllis Byrne/ Patient: "I'm really amazed at how good they feel."

The hand rejuvenation takes about an hour and costs between two and three thousand dollars. The resurfacing only needs to be done once, but the Restalyne needs to be touched up with more injections after about six to eight months.
