Erick Aybar homered on the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning to send the Salt Lake Bees on their way to a 6-1 win over the Portland Beavers in their home opener on Friday night. Aybar's blast, his first of the year, started the Bees' three run inning, as Mike Napoli delivered a run scoring single and then came home on an RBI single by Kendry Morales. Salt Lake would add three more in the second inning on a run producing single by Aybar and a two run homer by Howie Kendrick, which extended his hitting streak to nine games.
Chris Bootcheck (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings to earn the win, as he allowed just five hits with one strikeout and two walks. Aybar and Kendrick each drove in two runs, while Aybar and Napoli each had two hits, as Salt Lake wins its third straight home opener
