LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Jaycee Carroll scored 23 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds to lead Utah State over Southern Utah 60-49 Friday night in the season opener for both schools.
Carroll scored nine of his points on 3-pointers, hitting 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Stephen Ducharme added 11 points and Gary Wilkinson 10 for USU.
Tate Sorenson led the Thunderbirds (0-1) with 10 points. He was the only Southern Utah player to finish in double figures.
USU led by nine at halftime took its first double-digit lead in the game at the 10:50 mark in the second half, when Brayden Bell's dunk shot gave the Aggies a 45-34 lead. The Aggies led by as many as 15 and Carroll added his third 3-pointer with 2:10 remaining.
USU shot 47.8 percent from the field and outrebounded SUU 35-26.
Carroll scored 14 points in the first half, going 5-for-7 from the field.
The Thunderbirds didn't help themselves any with 12 turnovers and 12 fouls in the first half.
