KUWAIT CITY (AP) - The office of Kuwait's ruling emir says the oil-rich nation's leader has undergone surgery following routine medical tests in the United States.
The office, known as the Emiri Diwan, said Sunday that Sheik Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah had a "successful minor surgery." It did not give further details or say where he is being treated.
Sabah is 84 years old and has ruled the OPEC member nation since January 2006.
His office says Sabah is expected to be discharged from the hospital following a period of convalescence.
