Once in awhile I realize that this life of mine is the strangest and most wonderful experience. I get to meet interesting people, hear their ideas and opinions, learn about what matters to them - and I get to learn these things in the most unlikely places.

Like while I'm lying on an emergency room table waiting for the surgical team to show up on a Saturday. My gall bladder and I parted ways last weekend. (Good riddance. Lousy no good gall bladder!) Anyway, while I'm lying there feeling no pain after a shot of something, a doctor starts to talk health care reform with me. I learned that what I was paying for that surgery was not determined by him or by the hospital, but by the insurance company. I learned a lot, although I don't trust my memory of the conversation considering the pharmacy's involvement.

Then when I came back to work on Wednesday of this week, my friends from our sister station Arrow 103.5 - Jon and Brett - asked me if they could auction off my gall bladder on the air, did I still have it, was it preserved in whiskey, did I get to see it? I thought they were kidding, typical 12-year-old boy humor they are so good at, but they weren't kidding. They went on the air and auctioned off my gall bladder.

Ew! Gross!

I wonder what the insurance company would say about that?
