There are 13 FBS coaches who in 2005 got their first FBS head coaching jobs (11 of them got their first 4-year school head coaching jobs that year, and 2 others got their first FBS school head coaching jobs that year--they previously were coaches at 4-year schools in lower divisions). Here are their records:

22-10 Bronco Mendenhall, BYU

20-13, Kyle Whittingham, Utah

20-13 Charlie Weis, Notre Dame

*18-14 Bill Cubit, Western Michigan (He was previously head coach at Widener—Division III. Western Michigan was his first FBS job)

*16-16 Skip Holtz, E. Carolina (He was previously head coach Connecticut before it was FBS. East Carolina was his first FBS job)

16-16 Mike Gundy, Okla. St.

14-16 Dave Wannstedt, Pitt

13-18 Shane Montgomery, Miami,Ohio

9-21 Mark Snyder , Marshall

9-22 Ed Orgeron, Mississippi

7-24 Greg Robinson, Syracuse
