This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
After doing research, Ken Bentley had a deeper understanding of the serious shortage of nurses in the United States. His research found we'll need a million nurses by 2020. That's a lot of students to train and educate.
Ken was looking for a new business opportunity after moving to Utah with his wife. So, he thought, why not establish a program within a college dedicated to training qualified nurses and faster than traditional programs? His idea became a reality when he launched AmeriTech College in Draper in 2006.
In just six years AmeriTech College has become one of the largest providers of registered nurses in the state. One of the unique things about their program is they graduate nurses in 19 months instead of 48. They also have a 90 percent retention and placement rate for their students, especially since they have partnerships with hospitals and care facilities statewide.
This has been more successful than they anticipated. An AmeriTech student was doing her clinical work and came across a malady she studied with the robot. The doctor told her to treat it a certain way, and the student responded they had tried that on the simulator, but it didn't work. The doctor insisted she do it anyway. Only a few hours later he came back and apologized because further research showed the student was right.
AmeriTech's program is so well designed that in the last graduating class of 42 students, 100 percent passed their licensing exam.
