SALT LAKE CITY — Cardinals third baseman David Freese is a hero in St. Louis, and for good reason. He previously set a MLB record for postseason RBIs with 21 and his heroics in the 2011 World Series led the Cardinals to victory and earned him the World Series MVP award.

I understand his popularity, but a St. Louis TV anchor is taking the admiration a little too far. Show Me St. Louis host Julie Tristan somehow convinced "her new boyfriend" David Freese to join her for a ride on "Mr. Freeze's Reverse Blast" at Six Flags. Her crush on Freese and the relentless flirting make for, perhaps, the most awkward three-minute TV news story in the history of the industry.

Tim McCarver's inconvenient truth

For years it was assumed that steroid use was the cause for the increase in home runs in Major League Baseball. If Longtime Major League baseball analyst Tim McCarver is right, then we had it all wrong. McCarver shared an interesting theory during Fox's broadcast of the Cardinals vs. Brewers game on Saturday. He believes climate change is to blame for the increase in home runs. Yes, climate change.

"It has not been proven, but I think ultimately it will be proven that the air is thinner now. There has been climactic changes over the last 50 years in the world and I think that's one of the reasons that balls are carrying much better now than I remember," he said.

McCarver may want to stick to baseball.

Gus Johnson calling soccer games

If you watched the NCAA tournament this year you probably missed the bombastic play-by-play of Gus Johnson. It's no coincidence that this year's tournament lacked a signature "March Madness moment" without Gus behind the mic. Well, it turns out Gus has turned his attention to soccer. He is calling games on radio for the San Jose Earthquakes. This past weekend he called the game between the Earthquakes and the Philadelphia Union. Sure enough, San Jose scored a dramatic goal in stoppage time to earn a 2-1 victory and Gus was on the call.

Video bomb

Some fans can't seem to help themselves when they see a television reporter doing their job. All of us that work in television have been victims of the video bomb. Here is one that happened to CSN Philly sideline reporter Molly Sullivan during game 1 of the Eastern Conference Playoff series between the Bulls and 76ers. The bomber happens to be Chicago mascot Bennie the Bull.
