SALT LAKE CITY — Celebrating her birthday at Coors Field for the Colorado Rockies' home opener, 69-year-old Judith Reese was enjoying the game before sustaining a concussion after she was struck in the head from a foul ball by Michael Cuddyer in the fourth inning.
The game was delayed at the top of the fifth inning while medical personnel attended to Reese before carting her off on the field.
Most fans would dream of a ball hit in their direction, but for Reese, a foul ball to the head was not what she was probably hoping for. Fortunately, Reese was treated at the hospital and released in good condition. Nevertheless, it is a birthday she'll never forget.
Hot 100 surfers
Thousands of people flock to the state of Utah during winter months to carve it up in the fresh powder, taking in the beautiful landscape while skiing or snowboarding on the "Greatest snow on Earth." Despite the beautiful landscapes and powdery snow, Utah is missing at least one thing: the ocean.
I have always been amazed at the sport of surfing. The unpredictability that accompanies the sport makes it all the more intriguing. From the moment a wave takes its shape to the picturesque shots inside the barrel, surfing is a great sport. And while Utahns rarely get an opportunity to participate in the sport, it is still entertaining to watch.
Here is a video of the "Hot 100" surfers according to Surfer Magazine.
17-year-old Make-A-Wish dream
Thiago D'Elia, 17, learned April 4 that his Make-A-Wish dream of working out with the Miami Heat was going to become a reality. On Saturday, D'Elia enjoyed practice with players from the Heat, including his favorite player LeBron James, who he has followed for most of his career. D'Elia participated in shootaround, hitting NBA three-point shots and participating in a half-court competition.
D'Elia followed up Saturday's practice with courtside seats to the Miami Heat/Detroit Pistons game. He also received a signed authentic game jersey and a pair of shoes from James. In addition, he got an autograph from Dwyane Wade for one of his friends at home. D'Elia qualified for the Make-A-Wish Foundation after battling cancer for several years.
Millsap's putback dunk
The Utah Jazz played the star-less San Antonio Spurs Monday night, looking for a much-needed win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Jazz ultimately won the matchup — as expected — with Jazz power forward Paul Millsap's putback dunk capping off the win. Anticipating a missed shot, Millsap was left an open lane for a one-handed rebound and dunk.
Jeremy Lin documentary
But according to the Los Angeles Times, Lin may be the subject of an upcoming documentary. The documentary is expected to look at Lin's short-lived run in his rookie season and his humble background. The film will likely be laden with puns, but that is what makes the entire Lin sensation so fun. Look for the Lin documentary in the near future.
