One of Doug's ideas is to impose a ten year cap on trials. If the state is not able to prove a defendant's absolute guilt in ten years, the sentence is reduced to life. Many callers feel it should be the other way around, with the defendant having ten years to prove his innocence. Another problem is finding attorneys who are willing to represent death row inmates for as little as $9.88 an hour. That is unacceptable for any lawyer. How can states force lawyers to take these cases and ensure that they are committing all their talents to their defense. Other callers believe that the death penalty should just be done away with.
