SALT LAKE CITY -- In a game dedicated to his grandmother, who passed away over the weekend, The Jazz' Al Jefferson did something he has never done before in his NBA career.
The Utah big man, who scored 33 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, hit the first 3-pointer of his career to top off the Jazz' win over the Detroit Pistons 105-90 at the EnergySolutions Arena.
Up to that point, Big Al was 0-23 from behind the 3-point line.
Best fans in the MLS?
Real Salt Lake fans might have something to say about this, but the Portland Timbers fans are being hailed as the rowdiest and most passionate fans in Major League Soccer. In Monday's season opener against Philadelphia the Timbers Army, as they are called, began the game by singing the National Anthem.
All the fans singing the entire national anthem.
Tasteful or tacky?
Tebow or ManningSpeaking of passionate fans, no one can argue that Denver Broncos fans don't stand by their man.
A billboard was recently erected in Denver asking Broncos fans if they'd rather bring in free agent Peyton Manning or keep Tim Tebow as their starting quarterback.
To no one's surprise really, 60 percent of the 20,000 Denver fans who have voted picked Tebow.
Remember we're talking about a Super Bowl champion and 4- time MVP versus a QB that struggled to complete 40 percent of his passes last year.
Obviously though Manning doesn't have a cool mantra like "Tebow Time."
He's back
Future Hall of Fame receiver and well-known malcontent Randy Moss is back in the NFL having signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
Moss was out of the NFL last year after retiring for "personal reasons," but he's back and "ready to bring the fans out of their seats."
"I like what I can do for the NFL," said Moss. "I don't like what the NFL can do for me."
Somewhere Terrell Owens is looking for the open door.
Big League Burger
Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals have a new concession item called the "StrasBurger," aptly named for the team's ace Stephen Strasburg.
Naming food after players isn't new, but get this- the burger weighs more than most newborns.
Weighing eight pounds total (including toppings), the StrasBurger is a monstrous all beef burger (combination of ground brisket, chuck and short ribs). The burger is served on a large burger bun with our secret sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced red onions, pickle chips and served with a cone basket of fresh cut fries and a pitcher of your choice of soft drink.
Oh good, I wondered if this was a combo meal.
