WEST VALLEY CITY - Nick Emery scored 24 points including the first 11 points of the game as Lone Peak began it's title defense with a 62-36 victory over Kearns.

Emery went 4-8 from the 3-point line and scored 14 points in the 1st quarter. He sat out the 4th quarter with the game well in hand.

"You just have to come out confident," Emery said after the game. "That's our goal is to come out strong".

The bright spot for Kearns was the play of 6-7 junior Dayon Goodman. He scored 18 points including three dunks that electrified the crowd.

Lone Peak outrebounded Kearns 40 to 26 and held the Cougars to just 30 percent shooting.
