WEST VALLEY CITY — Jaden Rasmussen made a 3-point shot as time expired to give Herriman a thrilling 56-55 victory over Logan in the first round of the 4A state basketball tournament.
Logan seemed to have the game in hand with seven seconds left but the Grizzlies turned the ball over giving the Mustangs one more shot.
Herriman inbounded the ball with 3.7 seconds left. Tueni Luepemanu, who happens to be the quarterback on the football team, caught the inbounds pass in the post and kicked it out to Rasmussen who calmly beat the buzzer with the game-winner.
Rasmussen led the Mustangs in scoring with 15 points. They now face a tough challenge in the quarterfinals against 2nd ranked Bountiful.
