East holds on to beat Springville, advances to quarterfinals

WEST VALLEY CITY — Parker Van Dyke scored 30 points in his first state tournament game and East held off Springville 66-56 to advance to the 4A quarterfinals.

East never trailed and led by as much as 13 points but Springville came back to cut the Leopards lead to 1 late in the 4th quarter. Van Dyke made a 3-pointer that sparked an 11-2 run to close the game.

Sophomore Max Schreiner scored 25 points for the Red Devils in the loss.

East will advance to play Olympus Wednesday at 5:30 in the 4A Quarterfinals.
