This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Talk about business spirit! As childhood best friends, Patrick Oborn and Adam Edwards started their first business in Southern California as kids when they created a bike track and charged their little buddies ten cents for each lap they took. After attending BYU together they returned to California and went their separate ways to enter the work force.

As fate would have it, in 2002, they both lost their jobs with the dot-com collapse; however, they identified a need in the telecomm field they felt qualified to fill. So, they launched Telarus (tell-air-us). Now in its 10th year, they have 30 employees and bring in over $10 million in annual revenue.

These guys focus on supporting independent telecomm brokers. Think about the service you buy from a carrier to connect your business to the Internet. These sales consultants use Telarus' software tools to research which telecomm carrier, including companies like CenturyLink, Integra and XO, will provide the best value for your business broadband and voice needs.

Think about the last time you used a price comparison website when shopping on the web. You can thank Telarus for that too. Shortly after starting the company, in a one-bedroom apartment in Huntington Beach, California, Patrick discovered there was no platform for price quote automation, a crucial service for the telecomm industry. So, in 2003, he completed the prototype to what is now called GeoQuote, the patented industry-standard software used by thousands of independent carrier sales reps nationwide.

Telarus, which recently relocated to Sandy, has established itself in the industry by being cutting edge and technically savvy. Unlike their competitors, they've developed their own sales support software, including a CRM fiber mapping tool and proposal generator. They are smart and intuitive to trends in the industry with a focus on making telecomm sales simple and efficient for their users. In June they're bringing one of the largest tech conferences to Utah.

Boy Patrick and Adam have come a long way from making 10 cents for laps around the bike track.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
