A 355 pound (161 kilogram) meteorite from an asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter was sold for $93,000 (GBP53,000) at auction in New York City on Tuesday (11APR06). The pristine meteorite, named 'Valley Of The Sky', was among 10 meteorites for sale at Bonhams auction house. Thomas Lindgren, acting director of the natural history division for Bonhams, says, "This is art, not from man, but from outer space. He (the buyer) was absolutely ecstatic. There was no way he was going to walk away without it." The meteorite was thousands of years old and discovered in the Campo del Cielo crater field in Argentina. (ES/WNWA/SH)
