MONROE, N.C., Apr 4, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Police in Monroe, N.C., reportedly have rescued two British sisters from a woman accused of using them like slaves for 13 years in the United States.
Jasmine Lloyd, 22, and Holly Lloyd, 18, told police they had to work day and night, reports Britain's Sky News. The women said the suspect, a British national, beat them, forced them to tend animals and kept them away from school and friends.
Authorities believe the suspect, who thought she was the Messiah, has left the United States and could be hiding in Spain. Another 15-year-old adopted daughter also was rescued.
The woman began looking after the two British women while living in London in the 1990s when their natural mother could not cope. They moved to the Untied States after living for some time in Spain, the report said. Police were led to the Monroe home after being alerted by a neighbor.
A social services employee's family is current taking care of the young women, the report said.
