DERBY, England, Apr 3, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The University of Derby in Derby, England, is looking for a new cutting-edge computer game hero or heroine along the vein of Tomb Raider Lara Croft.
"Lara Croft was successful because the character broke the mold -- a strong female character and something different," Core Design Studio Manager Gavin Rummery said on the university's Web site. "Perhaps Derby's new course can help us find the next Lara Croft."
The university is now recruiting artists interested in earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer games modeling and animation.
"It's a fantastic idea for a course," said Rummery, whose Derby-based Core Design created Lara Croft.
"The industry needs to recruit more people with an artistic speciality, a flair for developing animation, 3D design or other areas."
