(KSL News) -- Cases of HIV virus are on the rise among US teens and medical experts worry Americans are becomining complacent about AIDS, so they're talking to students.

Lee Bohen, HIV Counselor: "When you become HIV positive, life as you know it is over. I had a nice house in the suburbs, three other kids, two cars, the whole nine yards. That day my life went away."

Lee Bohen is an HIV counselor with the Beehive group. She was infected with HIV 21 years ago, after receiving a blood transfusion during childbirth.

She's outlived expectations, but not without consequences.

She travels around the US, telling teens the hard truth about life with HIV -- infections, endless aches and pains and emotional turmoil. She hopes inspire teens to protect themselves against the virus.

Centers for Disease Control says the HIV infection rate has jumped nine-percent in the last three years among 13 to 24-year olds.
