Acclaimed novelist JAMES ELLROY has agreed to adapt a novel written by another author into a screenplay for the first time.

New Line Cinema have signed up the LA CONFIDENTIAL screenwriter to translate NICCI FRENCH's novel LAND OF THE LIVING to film.

Ellroy has the BRIAN DE PALMA-directed version of his book BLACK DAHLIAHS coming out later this year (2006), which stars Hollywood lovers JOSH HARTNETT and SCARLETT JOHANSSON. (FA/WNWCEM/SC)
