LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Kyisean Reed and Steven Thornton each scored 13 points to pace Utah State to a 65-62 win over in-state rival Southern Utah Saturday night.

Brockeith Pane added 11 points for the Aggies (2-1). The Thunderbirds were led by Jackson Stevenett with 19 points, Matt Massey 16 and Wade Collie with 10.

Southern Utah led for much of the second half, leading 37-30 with 15:10 to play. Five consecutive points by reserve center Jordan Stone helped Utah State stay close, though, with the Aggies taking the lead 42-41 on a Pane jumper with 11:40 left.

Reed scored all of his points in the second half, many of them coming during a six-minute drought for Southern Utah after the Aggies took the lead. Utah State scored nine points during that stretch to keep the game just out of reach.

Southern Utah pulled to within to 59-57, thanks to timely shooting from the free-throw line, before Reed threw down a dunk to give Utah State a 61-57 lead with less than a minute to play.

Utah State hurt itself with poor free-throw shooting, finishing just 12 of 24. Southern Utah shot 6-of-13 from 3-point range.

Southern Utah switched to a zone defense and fought its way back into the game after trailing by seven points in the early moments.

The lead then changed hands or was tied seven more times in the half before Southern Utah took a 28-25 halftime lead.

Utah State is 6-0 against Southern Utah and is 27-1 at home against in-state foes. The Aggies have won 32 straight home games to give them the third-longest active home winning streak in the nation.
