Our KSL Nightside Project guru Ethan Millard was surprised to see Ralph Becker and Dave Buhler come out of the primary, even though he called it that it would be those two last week. The last-minute happenings seemed to suggest another outcome. But it should be a good race between the two B's. It's non-partisan, but the papers are noting that a republican has not won the race in 40 years. By the way isn't 40 a biblical number signifying "a very long time?" 40 years in the wilderness, 40 days and 40 nights of flooding, etc.

I'm a Salt Lake City resident and I was amazed by all the campaign fliers we got for the candidates. Our mailbox and doorstep were flooded by several for each person every day during the last week. I guess we'll get a break now until the end of October, but maybe not -- this is the first time in a long time we've got two new faces in the mayoral race so they may each campaign long and hearty til November.

So Hillary Clinton is coming to Utah! Well, to Park City (motto: "In Utah but not of Utah.") That area is definitely the money-pit for presidential candidates who come here. This morning when we did stories on her upcoming visit, we got text messages from people saying things like, "Oh the horror!" and "Seal the borders!" Utahns really do love her or hate her I think. They also either love Ron Paul, or have no idea who he is. He's doing a rally here on Saturday and I swear every time we do some sort of political story, comments pop up on this website from Ron Paul fans.

Side note -- Adam Thomas, Utah's Morning News executive producer, is on vacation until next Wednesday, and I am filling in. I am so sleepy! It's only one hour earlier (3 AM instead of the 4 AM start-time when I report) but it's starting to affect me. Thank goodness for naps.
