TOOELE VALLEY -- The final 2011 points-paying round of the Utah Kart Championship presented by Sunoco Race Fuels took place on Saturday, October 15, with champions being crowned in 12 classes.
Utah Kart Championship presented by Sunoco Race Fuels
The final points-paying round of the 2011 Utah Kart Championship presented by Sunoco Race Fuels saw drivers fighting for every inch of racetrack in order to improve the championship positions.
In the Junior I 4-Cycle race, John Pardee won took his third win in four starts, edging Josh Fine by 0.126 second. Tevin Robbins' third-place finish clinched the class championship for him, with Duncan Biles and Payton Durrant completing the top five..
Zach Warrell claimed the Junior II 4-Cycle class championship with a flourish, taking his eighth win of the season handily. Casey Straub finished second, 5.509 seconds in arrears, to claim second in the title chase, with Sydney Hess taking the final podium position in both the race and the point standings. In the Senior 4-Cycle race that ran simultaneously, Amanda Douglas did much the same as Warrell, capping a stellar season with her 10th win and clinching the class championship. Jared Simcox finished second, a razor-thin 0.030 second behind Douglas, with John Yakovich taking third.
The Rotax Junior race saw Lincoln Steel take his fifth win of the season, taking the checkers 3.574 seconds ahead of McKay Snow, with Walker Hess finishing third. Marina Yardley and Bruno Carneiro filled out the top five. Alex Yates, who moved up to the Rotax International class mid-season, had previously earned sufficient points to take the class title.
In the Rotax International class, Christopher Stone wrapped up his class championship with his fourth win of the season, beating Alex Yates to the flag by 3.395 seconds. Mitchell Meissner was third, ahead of Alexander Honing and David Salazar. The Rotax Masters class shared the track, with Hobie Smith taking his third win of the season by 0.958 second over Ken Maxfield, who claimed the class title. Justin Peck was third, with Mike Kresser and Rich Fine completing the top five.
Ryan Pool finished off a perfect season in the Spec Heavy class, taking his 10th win in as many starts and claiming the class title. Todd Edgington finished second in both the race and the title chase, coming home 6.621 seconds behind Pool. Larry Moulton finished third ahead of R.J. Edgington and Kennth Simcox. In the Spec Light class, running at the same time, Mike Beeny took his third win in a limited schedule this season, beating Tyler Bennett to the flag by 1.401 seconds. Colby Yardley wrapped up the class championship with a third-place finish, with Bonnier Moulton and Patrick Cushenberry fouth and fifth, respectively.
Iin the combined MicroMax/Sportsman race, Sophia Price won her fourth MicroMax race of the season, holding off Payton Durrant by a mere 0.071 second, with Finn Mallinen third. In the Sportsman class, T.J. Thorne took his fourth win in the final five races by 0.290 second over Mark Morgan. Colby Straub finished third and clinched the class championship.
There will be a "fun race" for all the competitors in the Utah Kart Championship presented by Sunoco Race Fuels on Saturday, October 29, to put the final touch on what has been a great and very competitive season.
