NEW HAVEN - The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending October 15.
About the Award: This is the eighth year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RYAN TANNEHILL, TEXAS A&M
Senior, Quarterback, Big Spring, TX/Big Spring
Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill passed for 415 yards and career-best six touchdowns as the 21st-ranked Aggies defeated 20th-ranked Baylor, 55-28. Tannehill completed 25-of-37 passes and threw for scores of 68, 7, 8, 5, 68 and 47 yards as Texas A&M (4-2, 2-1 in Big 12) racked up a season-high 681 yards of total offense.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DERRICK SHELBY, UTAH
Senior, Defensive End, Houston, TX/Hightower
Utah defensive end Derrick Shelby had a big game as the Utes defeated Pittsburgh, 26-14, on the road. Shelby had a team-best seven tackles (6 solo), including 2.5 for losses, 1.5 quarterback sacks and intercepted a pass which he returned 21 yards for a touchdown. With the win, Utah improved to 3-3 on the season.
