LONDON, Mar 14, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A British driving survey has confirmed what many women worldwide have long suspected -- men take twice as long as women to admit they're lost.

In fact, the Royal Auto Club Direct Insurance poll of 2,000 adults tabulated that British male drivers waste nearly 6 million hours a year wandering around before they will stop and ask for help, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

Broken down, on average a lost man will keep driving for 20 minutes, compared with the lost woman's average of 10 minutes.

The poll also showed men fully expected to endure a 10-minute "nagging period" from their partner before throwing in the towel and stopping to ask directions.

Craig Martin, RAC Direct Insurance product manager, said 64 percent of couples admitted to having such arguments, which doesn't bode well for good driving.

"The anxiety, increased stress levels and road rage that can be caused by getting lost are unnecessary distractions on today's busy roads when motorists need to be alert and able to concentrate," he said.
