LOGAN -- With a less prolific matchup this week for Utah State, the social-media world wasn't quite as fixated on the Aggies as they were during the Aggies upset-bid against the Auburn Tigers last week.
With the Weber State Wildcats in town to renew their rivalry after 10 years, there was some buzz about how many points the Aggies would put on the board against their in-state rivals. But the trend quickly moved to the slow start that Utah State produced.
Kevin Graham (@kevingraham1280) tweeted, "Clearly the Aggies are still hung over from the heartbreaking Auburn loss".
Benjamin Wood (@BJaminWood) seemed to feel the same way. He said, "I called this. We play well when it's against ranked teams, but against teams in our wheelhouse, we struggle for consistency."
Weber State fans got in on the Aggies early struggles as well. Marcus Mailei (
Penalties tormented the Aggies throughout the first half. Tony Jones (@TonyAggieville) tweeted at halftime, "An indication of how big the penalties are: USU leads 253-139 in total yardage".
The feeling at halftime was that Weber State was winning the game even though the scoreboard showed a tied game at 17 points apiece.
When Utah State came out for the second half, they came out with a purpose and began to punish the Wildcats on the ground.
Both Robert Turbin and Kerwynn Williams took it to the Weber State defense on the Aggies' first offensive possession and the Aggie faithful let the Twitter universe know it.
"Williams is on fire tonight!" tweeted Alexandria Evensen (@aerogirl244). "Let's go USU! Putting Turbin on the map!" said Shelley Coop (@shell_coop).
The Aggies had a mesmerizing 3rd quarter, putting up 23 points on the Wildcats and flushing any doubt about a victory away.
The 4th quarter was same story, different verse for the Aggies.
Mike Brice (@MikeBrice) tweeted, "Looks like only USU is going to get a W today" after it was announced that both BYU and Utah lost today in their respective games.
A Twitter user by the name of radar24 (@radar24), a Utah State fan, summed it up best for the theme of the night and the thoughts of Aggie fans:
"USU laying it on thick now. Can't wait to play BYU."
