This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Have you ever imagined having sensors in your floor so the lights turn on as you step in front of your vanity or enter your walk-in closet? How about changing the status of your vacation home from "security" to "occupied" at the touch of a button? That's exactly the type of work Lifestyle Electronics in Park City provides.
Owner Kevin Barnes says the company is part of the custom electronics industry. They want you to be in control of your house instead of your house controlling you. Their solutions are designed to be user friendly. Sometimes they work from the ground up, meaning Kevin gets involved in the process when the architect is designing the house is being designed or the foundation is being dug.
Systems are designed so they can be controlled remotely from an iPad or a website. As a safety measure, once a day Lifestyle Electronics will turn off every single electronic device in unoccupied homes. We Americans love our gadgets. We spent billions of dollars on technology in 2010 and are projected to do the same in 2011.
Kevin understands the value of great employees and it shows. His employees are presentable and they'll take off their shoes before they enter anyone's home. He has a fantastic employee loyalty program. For example, when they've been there five years, the company sends them on an all-expenses paid trip.
One of the unique things about Lifestyle Electronics is they deal with electronics, which sometimes break. Since Kevin doesn't manufacture them, it's not his manufacture product when this happens, but he won't run from the problem. His policy is to never tell clients no; instead he'll suggest a different approach.
This strategy has really worked since the majority of his business has come through word of mouth. This is what has helped Lifestyle Electronics to survive a challenging economic situation. They've taken such great care of their customers that when they update their electronics, even in lean times, they know exactly who to turn to.
For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
