SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah football team will kick off its 2006 campaign at UCLA on Sept. 2 and will conclude the regular season against Brigham Young in Rice-Eccles Stadium on Nov. 25. The schedule is evenly split between road and home games, with six apiece.
Utah's home opener is scheduled for Sept. 9 against Northern Arizona. The Utes' first conference game falls on Sept. 23 at San Diego State. Defending MWC champion TCU is Utah's first conference home game and is slated for Oct. 5.
Game times and television schedules will be released by the MWC office in the near future, however it is likely that Utah's Oct. 5 game against TCU and Oct. 19 game at New Mexico will be televised since they are on a Thursday.
Second-year Ute head coach Kyle Whittingham had this to say about the 2006 schedule. "Opening the season against UCLA in the Rose Bowl is something our players are looking forward to. The Bruins are coming off a 10-2 season and are, without question, one of the premier programs in the country. It's also a great opportunity for our many fans and alums in the Southern California area to come out and watch us play and support the team. Overall, this is a quality schedule in terms of opponents. Non-league games like UCLA and Boise State will provide great preparation for our conference season. Thursday games are something our players get excited about and usually mean national television exposure for your program, which is extremely positive. The short turnaround of a Thursday game is a challenge preparation-wise for our players and coaches, but something we have handled well in the past."
Season ticket renewals for Utah football will be mailed the first week of April and new season ticket orders will be taken starting June 1.
