OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Weber State basketball coach Joe Cravens lost his coaching job Monday after two consecutive losing seasons, the school reported.
The announcement came after the team lost its final four games to finish with a 10-17 record (4-10 Big Sky) and failed to qualify for the conference tournament for the first time since 1981.
Cravens has two years left on his contract and will be reassigned to other duties in the school's athletics department, WSU Athletic Director Jerry Graybeal said in a statement.
Graybeal said the university will soon form a search committee to begin looking for a new coach.
It was only the third time the Wildcats recorded back-to-back losing seasons since the school began playing at the Division I level in 1962-63. The number of wins was the fourth-lowest total in the program's history.
In 2002-2003, Cravens led WSU to a Big Sky conference title and NCAA Tournament berth. The school was undefeated in conference play that year and Cravens was named Big Sky Coach of the Year.
The Wildcats went 14-16 (7-7 Big Sky) during the regular season last year.
Cravens was named head coach in 1999, after serving two years as an assistant coach at WSU. In his seven seasons leading the Wildcats his overall record is 116-88, 58-44 in the Big Sky.
