WEST VALLEY CITY - Rocky Mountain Raceways' 15th annual Maverik Clash of the Titans featured not only figure-8 monster truck racing but also some of the closest battles for the Maverik Modifieds, USAC Young Automotive Group Sprints and Super Stocks.
Dan Runte of the Summit Bigfoot dominated both nights of monster truck racing taking the win over both Dawn Creten in the Scarlet Bandit on Saturday night and Larry Swim in the Snake Bite on Sunday night.
Jimmy Creten in the Bounty Hunter had fans on their feet Saturday night as he prevailed over the wheelie contest and again on Sunday night with a win in the freestyle contest. Creten achieved a three-wheeled spin that had fans ecstatic and cheering from the stands.
01 Michael Hale took to the track Saturday night with a victory in mind but came up short in lap 3 of the Maverik Modifieds main event with engine trouble; taking him out of the race.
Working his way to the front #41 Michael Haddenham drove hard, taking the lead by lap 7 and outlasted other challengers for the win. #18 Johnny Luttmer came in second, followed by #84 Mark Ith Jr., #9 Jeremy Eaton and #20 Dan McCoy rounded out the top five.
Despite not being able to finish the main event Hale remains the point leader with a twenty-two point lead over #00 Tyler Whetstone.
#36 Ryan Burdett claimed his third USAC Young Automotive Group Sprints win of the season after a close battle with current point leader #24 Jim Waters. Burdett passed Waters with 4 laps to go. Waters came in second, #24x Bryan Shafer in third, #89 Eric Barlow in fourth and #75 Paul Marconi in fifth.
#13 Tim Farhner took to the track for the Super Stocks main event Saturday night and held tight to his first place position the entire length of the race. #25 Dillion Lawrence claimed the Super Stocks win on Sunday night after leading twenty-seven laps of the thirty lap main event.
Racing on the America First Credit Union Super Oval will continue on Saturday, August 20 with the NAPA 125 featuring; Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Models, Maverik Modifieds, Pro Race Trucks, Figure 8 Cars and Western States Equipment Figure 8 Trains.
