Here we are only four years removed from hosting the Olympic Winter Games and already there is talk about doing it again.
Why not!
Salt Lake City in 2002 proved its worth as an Olympic community. In many ways what happened here - the way events came together - set a lofty standard for the quadrennial winter sporting festival. The proximity of the venues is incomparable.
The infrastructure, essentially, is already in place. And Utah's people, including a vast pool of potential volunteers, are unmatched.
In short, Salt Lake City is an ideal Winter Olympics city.
That said, the reality of winning another bid any time soon would have to be considered a long shot given the International Olympic Committee's history of spreading the opportunity around. Cities and nations throughout the world are lining up in hopes of experiencing what we had here, including the positive economic fallout that can accompany a successful event.
Utah won plenty of plaudits for what happened in 2002. The community, more than ever, stands out on the worldwide map. In KSL's view, it doesn't hurt to dream and at least explore what the possibilities might be for another go at it 16 or 20 or 24 years down the road.
