This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Did you know that North Americans spend around 90 percent of their time indoors? This is a concern since the air quality in buildings is often filled with toxins and can be up to 10 times as polluted as the outside air. That's why the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has declared indoor air quality as one of its top five public health concerns and priorities. It's possible something as simple as live plants could be a solution.
Plants clean the air by absorbing pollutants through their leaves, roots and the bacteria that live on them. Kathy Spencer founded her Eagle company, Living Green Solutions, Inc. 30 years ago because of her passion for sharing live plants with others. Over the last three decades her company has consistently increased their expertise in designing, installing and servicing beautiful healthy environments created with plants.
NASA has done studies that show how live plants increase overall productivity by as much as 20 percent. Many companies are tapping into this by installing a living wall. Kathy and her team will go into a building and find the place with the most airflow and create a wall made entirely of plants, or a living wall.
These plants are not only beautiful but they also help stabilize the humidity, air temperature and purify the air so your heating and air conditioning system doesn't have to work as hard. She has documented records of sharp decreases in energy costs and consumption from clients who have the walls.
When visiting with Kathy it's easy to see just how dedicated she is to her business, her clients and her plants. Living Green Solutions has been so successful that it has expanded around the Treasure Valley and has another office in Texas. By the way, a large company personally invited her to set up shop in Texas, and business there has really taken off. All of her employees are passionate and dedicated to what they do. Living Green Solutions also offers horticulture support therapies for students in preschool through college.
