This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
All of us who live here know Utah has a wealth of outdoor opportunities. And it's no secret since tourism is an economic engine in each of Utah's 29 counties. In 2010, tourism generated around 115,000 jobs. That's huge!
Thanks to brothers Greg and Doug Kennedy anybody who comes to experience the wonders of Utah's natural landscape, especially at night, can now do so more safely and easily. Their company, Tactical Lighting Solutions produces the LazerBrite, a versatile patented flashlight with multiple uses. It can emulate a glow stick, function as a flashlight or do both at the same time.
It has bright LED lights on each end connected by a clear tube. You can shine both lights at once, do one at a time, or take the lights off the tube and use them separately. The LazerBrite can be used for everything from night hikes to emergency preparedness to caving. The newest version is submersible up to 165 feet so it's also good for diving and boating.
Greg says anybody who picks up the flashlight is fascinated with it. One of their biggest clients to date is the military. In the last few years the Department of Defense has purchased over 200,000 of their lights and many thousands of those have been used in Iraq and Afghanistan. Military versions of the flashlights come with two extra batteries, but they last so long most come home using the same battery they left with.
The product is a result of Greg and Doug's frustration with traditional glow sticks. They would take the glow sticks on night hikes but were bothered you could only use them once. An electric glow stick failed to meet their expectations, so their solution was to create their own. They couldn't be happier with the current product.
Tactical Lighting Solutions now has a plant in Moab where they produce the patented flashlights. For more information, visit lazer, spelled with a z, brite.com.
