British conductor and choral director Terry Edwards was rushed to hospital late Friday after suffering a heart problem during a performance in the eastern French city of Lyon, emergency services said.
Edwards, in his 60s, was taken ill just ten minutes into the performance of the Lord of the Rings symphony from the successful film series, at Lyon's Halle Tony-Garnier.
He was said to be in serious condition overnight.
Edwards is also director of the London voices group which has sung on numerous film soundtracks including for Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies.
Friday's French premiere of the Lord of the Rings music was called off, but it was announced that Saturday's performance would go ahead with Edwards' assistant Dunn Scott taking the baton.
