(KSL News) -- There may be a new way to help the millions of American women who struggle with infertility. Forget thermometers, shots or pills, some doctors say the solution may be to lose weight.
Fertility specialists say the body mass index is the best way for women to figure out their ideal body weight. A normal BMI between 18 and 25 gives the best chance for getting pregnant, but doctors say any weight loss can be helpful.
Dr. Samuel Pang, Fertility Specialist: "Estrogens are produced in fat, and the more fat tissue you have, the higher your estrogen levels will be. And what it does is it causes an imbalance in the body, and that can lead to problems with ovulation."
By the way, extra weight can also hurt a man's sperm production.
