PRINCETON, N.J., Feb 9, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- While her husband struggles to improve his low job approval ratings, Laura Bush remains a very popular first lady, a new poll shows.
In fact, her current approval ratings are among the most positive Gallup pollsters ever recorded for a first lady. But, most of those polled said they would not like to see her run for the U.S. Senate as her predecessor did.
The latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll finds 82 percent of Americans approve of the job she is doing as first lady with 13 percent disapproving. She had a similar rating a year ago.
In general, Americans give positive marks to first ladies, but Laura Bush's scores are among the best Gallup has measured. Hillary Rodham Clinton had a high of 80 percent in February 1999.
These results are based on telephone interviews with randomly selected national samples of approximately 500 adults, aged 18 and older, conducted Jan. 20-22.
