Feb 01, 2006 (WENN via COMTEX) -- LATEST: Opera star PLACIDO DOMINGO has cancelled his performances at New York City's Metropolitan Opera until 2 March (06), while he recovers from windpipe inflammation tracheitis.
The 65-year-old tenor pulled out of his opening performance in CYRANO DE BERGERAC last Thursday (26JAN06) and subsequently cancelled appearances on Tuesday (31JAN06) and this Saturday's (04FEB06) matinee.
Understudy ANTONIO BARASORDA replaced the 65-year-old in the debut of the revival of the FRANCO ALFANO opera.
Domingo will not be appearing in SAMSON ET DALILA and will be replaced for five of his six scheduled performances by CLIFTON FORBIS, with the replacement for the final show to be announced later.
Domingo hopes to recover to appear in three Cyrano shows in March, and will conduct GIUSEPPE VERDI's RIGOLETTO during February (06). (SC/WNWA/ES)
