Former BYU and Philadelphia Eagles tight end Chad Lewis, joined by former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi and former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher, climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro this week as part of their eight-day journey to bring attention to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Lewis, Bruschi and Fisher ascended to the top of the 19,340-foot summit, known as "the roof of Africa," along with four soldiers who suffered injuries in the line of duty.
"This was an epic adventure," Lewis said. "We conquered Mount Kilimanjaro."
The group is making its descent down Kilimanjaro Thursday. Follow the contigent's trek here.
Meanwhile, a report that surfaced this week from a local website that has attracted considerable attention on the Internet. Deepshadesofblue.com reported that the Big East Conference reached out to BYU about joining that league in football only. BYU officials reportedly turned down that opportunity to pursue the course of independence.
