In an interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey on Thursday (26 January) James Frey, the author of A Million Little Pieces, reportedly admitted to fabricating details about the characters in his memoir.

According to Reuters, Winfrey stated on her television show: "I really feel duped". The talk show host had previously selected Frey's memoir for her book club in September last year.

In addition Frey also reportedly admitted on the show: "All the way through the book I altered details about every one of the characters". This was apparently done in order to disguise their true identities.

Frey's book sold a total of 1.77m copies in 2005.
