A few weeks ago, I got a look at a sneak peek of a phenomenal pull-out photo spread/timeline dedicated to Jimmer Fredette that would be appearing in the Spring 2011 edition of BYU Magazine.

The edition is now in print, and the article accompanying the pullout is now online. My Deseret News colleague and friend Jeff Call authored the linked article, and as usual, he does a tremendous job, profiling a player we think we all know, yet finding ways to to introduce us to new elements of the "Jimmer story."

Well done, Jeff, and I know all readers will echo my congratulations.

The photo above was one of many the pros at BYU Photo took in preparation for the Jimmer spread, and photographer/BYU Photo Manager Jaren Wilkey has posted a blog and video re-capping the Jimmer Fredette photo shoot; I'm sure you will appreciate Jaren's writing and a behind-the-scenes look at how the job got done with a subject who was among the most photographed faces in sports over the last number of months.

Great job, Jaren.

In the meantime, Fredette continues preparations for NBA workouts. I'm told that a sessions with individual teams will soon be scheduled, but a week from today, Fredette will be in Chicago for the five-day NBA Draft Combine, featuring more than 50 players currently slated to attend.

Fredette will be joined by a "who's who" of college stars, with fellow MWC standout Kawhi Leonard (San Diego State) among them.

To get ready for the combine, Fredette has been working out with his uncle and noted speed/conditioning trainer Lee Taft, as well as former Arizona guard and All-American Miles Simon. The Octagon Sports agency suggested Simon as a workout partner, and Octagon is paying for him to put Fredette through his paces in Provo.

Following his playing days in Tucson, Simon had a brief professional career, before returning to Arizona as an assistant to Lute Olson. Most recently, Simon has been serving as a college basketball analyst for ESPN.

BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe is meeting with members of the local sports media on Thursday for his annual end-of-season Q and A session.

Check back here tomorrow afternoon for audio clips and a written recap of the gathering.
