ARTESIA, Calif., Jan 25, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A team of judges in California will decide whether skater Michelle Kwan should get another chance to compete for the Olympic gold medal.

The 25-year-old Torrance, Calif., native, who withdrew from the recent U.S. championships due to an injury, will appear before the judges this week at the East West Ice Palace in Artesia to an attempt to be selected to compete in next month's Winter Olympics in Italy.

Her record that includes nine U.S. titles and five world titles earned her a bye on the team on condition she is determined to be fit to compete at Turin, reports The Los Angeles Times. Kwan is yet to win an Olympic Gold.

She will be judged on a scoring system she has competed under only once before where she finished fourth. If she doesn't excel, she will be replaced by Emily Hughes, the third-place finisher at the U.S. championships and younger sister of Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hughes, the report said.
