OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley University softball will unveil its newly renovated Wolverine Field Tuesday at 5 p.m. when the Wolverines host in-state rival BYU.
Renovations to the field include a new playing surface, new dugouts and new fencing.
Admission to the game will be free of charge and live stats will be available by visiting WolverineGreen.com.
UVU enter the game having four in a row and six of its last seven games, while the Cougars have won eight straight and 20 of last previous 21. The Wolverines are 18-24 overall and 11-5 in Pacific Coast Softball Conference play after sweeping a four-game series from Weber State last weekend and BYU is 32-15 and 7-1 in Mountain West Conference action.
Last weekend's sweep over the Wildcats helped UVU move into second place in the PCSC Mountain Division and just one game back of Portland State, while BYU is currently in first place in the Mountain West. The Cougars are also currently receiving votes in both Top 25 polls.
The Cougars won the first meeting between the two school 7-3 at on April 19 at Gail Miller Field. UVU led the game 3-0 in the early stages, but the Cougars scored seven unanswered runs to pick up the win.
For the year, UVU senior Meghan Yocom leads the Wolverines with a .402 batting average, while freshman Amanda Robinson and junior Amanda Perez are hitting .333 and .328 respectively. Perez also leads the team in homers (8) and RBIs (37).
In the circle the Wolverines have gone with the one-two punch of freshman Josi Summers and senior Kyli Flanary. Summers leads the team with a 12-12 record and a 4.15 ERA, while Flanary, the reigning Great West Pitcher of the Week, had a huge series last weekend at Weber State where she went 3-0 with a 1.95 ERA. Last Saturday Flanary also threw a four-hit shutout against the Wildcats.
JC Clayton and Jessica Fitu lead BYU in hitting at .394 and. 390 respectively. Fitu is also tops on the squad in runs batted in with 51, while Caschjen Atagi leads the team in home runs with 10.
Paige Affleck is the Cougars top starting pitcher with a 20-10 record with a 2.04 ERA, while Hannah Howell is the top reliever. Howell has a team-high four saves and a 2.42 ERA.
Following Tuesday's game UVU will host a much-anticipated series with PCSC foe Idaho State on Friday and Saturday. For UVU to win the Mountain Division the Wolverines will most likely need to sweep the Bengals and also hope that Weber State can steal a game or two from Portland State.
