On Wednesday, Dave Rose signed a new 5 year contract that will keep him as head basketball coach at BYU through the 2015-2016 season.
After the Cougars first trip to the Sweet 16 in 30 years, Rose had interest from other schools, but decided to stay.
"I'm exited to stay because I know that this is my future." said Rose.
Rose had other options as he was rumored to be a leading candidate for other head coaching vacancies. Rose still felt that BYU was the right place for him.
"There was, surprisingly, a great deal of interest. I felt that it was something I needed to look in to and when we looked into it, I think we felt as a family that we wanted to continue to build a legacy here."
BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe received a lot of input when it was rumored that Rose was thinking about other jobs.
"There's been so many students, fans from the community, fans from across the country that said 'Whatever you do, do everything you can to keep our coach with the team'. I love that, I love when our people 'Cougar Nation' refer to Coach Rose as 'our' coach."
While financial terms of the new contract weren't made public, BYU president Cecil O. Samuelson made it clear.
"Since we believe he's the finest coach at any level in the country, whatever he's paid, he will be underpaid economically."
