SALT LAKE CITY (July 16, 2007) - Paul Millsap scored the first 13 points for the Jazz in the first quarter of Utah's RMR game against the San Antonio Spurs Monday night. The Jazz big men were the only Utah players to score, Rafael Araujo and Kyrylo Fesenko also had a bucket each. The Jazz outrebounded the Spurs 13-3, however the Spurs led the Jazz after period one 18-17.
The Spurs stretched out their lead to eight points in the second quarter, ending the half up 41-33. Millsap was held scoreless and the Jazz committed seven turnovers for a total of 13 by halftime. The Spurs were led by C.J. Watson with ten points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field. Millsap did lead all players with eight rebounds.
The Spurs threw on full court pressure defense through part of the third and the Jazz fought through it to get within seven despite six turnovers, but the Spurs pulled back away to end the quarter on top 55-44. A low scoring quarter for both teams, San Antonio shot only 34.7 percent from the field, just over a percent better than Utah.
The Jazz stormed back from their 11-point deficit with a 13-2 run to start the fourth quarter. At the 6:20 mark, Fesenko rebounded and dunked it home to tie the ballgame at 57. The Spurs countered with a 6-0 run and with just over three minutes left it was a four point ballgame. Both teams traded buckets for a couple minutes, but the Spurs hung on to win 75-71. Millsap was the lone double-double man on the court with 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Jazz. The Spurs had four players in double figures. Watson led with 17 points and Pooh Jeter followed with 16 points. The Jazz committed a dismal 23 turnovers, compared to the Spurs' 11.
