LOVE WALKED IN
Marisa de Los Santos
2 1/2 STARS
Dutton, $23.95
IF you're not a fan of incessant foreshadowing, you may be annoyed by Cornelia, an 85-pound, 31-year-old movie obsessive who thinks she's the next Katharine Hepburn. Her Cary Grant is Martin Grace, who waltzes into her caf and changes her life (she talks like that). But try to get past Cornelia's annoying tics because, once you do, you can appreciate the real love story here, between Cornelia and recently abandoned 11-year-old Clare. The wise-beyond-her-years child steals the show as she struggles to make sense of her new surroundings. Along the way, there's more of Cornelia's overly dramatic declarations, and enough breakups and surprise twists that a movie version, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, is practically a given. Strip this story down to its best elements and you're left with a heartwarming, original, old-soul romance, and two tiny women who deserve to find love in unexpected places.
