Washington (dpa) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will depart Washington Saturday for Indonesia and Australia to discuss health and environmental issues, the U.S. State Department said Tuesday.
During her six-day trip, Rice will meet with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to focus on U.S. support for developing democracy in the Southeast Asian nation, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
Cooperating to prevent an outbreak of avian influenza and reviewing the tsunami recovery effort will also be on the agenda, he said.
In Australia, Rice will hold talks with her Australian and Japanese counterparts as part of a strategic dialogue between the two countries, McCormack said.
She will also participate in the first Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate with the governments of Australia, China, India, Japan and South Korea, he said.
